The Gift of You
The Christmas season is upon us and for many the race is on to find the perfect gift.
Unfortunately, too often Christmas has become all about retail and the commercialism that so easily consumes us. As I ponder this very special time of year, I am reminded that the greatest gift given to you and I did not come in a dollar bill or as an expensive present. It came in the form of a human baby. God took on human flesh so mankind could come up close and intimately experience God with “skin on.”
When you think about it, the most important gift that you and I can give is the gift of ourselves. What your family, your children really want and need from you is not your money or the trinkets you give but you! The truth is no one can replace you. Even the internet and all of our savvy technology can not replace the human touch. You matter, your presence matters. What you have to offer matters. People want to experience the “real you” and not an imitation of someone else or a substitute.
So this Christmas, let me challenge you to give the gift that keeps on giving - the gift of you! Give of yourself. Give away some of your time and talents. Give your love. Give from your heart. Be a gift with “skin on” to someone who could use a special touch. The rewards and satisfaction for you and those around you will be unending. It really will be a gift that keeps on giving.
